Strong match

Who this is for

  • Bari players in pit or big band with long rests between entrances
  • Gigging outdoors or in cold rooms where cane goes unstable
  • Doublers who pick up bari occasionally and need it ready

Consider the trade-offs

When to look elsewhere

  • Players who adjust and balance their own reeds by hand
  • Anyone wanting several reeds to rotate cheaply
  • Players who have not settled on a strength yet

What matters in use

The specifications, translated

Catalog numbers tell only part of the story. These are the details most likely to change how this product feels, sounds, or fits into a setup.

Detail 01

Fiber construction, not cane

Plays immediately with no soak. On bari, that matters most when you sit out for pages then enter cold.

Detail 02

Medium strength

Middle resistance. Enough to hold the low end without fighting you on altissimo entrances.

Detail 03

Baritone saxophone cut

Cut for the larger bari mouthpiece. It will not seat on tenor or alto.

Detail 04

$41.95

Comparable to a box of bari cane, where individual reeds are already the most expensive of the family.

Detail 05

Natural finish

Uncoated surface. Under the lip it feels more like cane than a slick synthetic.

Final check

Know before you order

  1. 01Reed only — no mouthpiece, ligature or reed guard in the box
  2. 02Brand strength labels vary; medium may not match your cane number
  3. 03Rinse and dry after playing so residue does not build at the tip

Product questions

Before you decide

Straight answers to the questions shoppers most often ask about this product.

01Does it need soaking like cane?

No. It does not take on water, so it plays the same at the first note and at the end of a three-hour show.

02How does it compare in strength to my cane reeds?

Medium sits in the middle of the range, near a 2.5 to 3 cane bari reed on a standard mouthpiece. Try one before replacing your whole rotation.

03Will it work with my ligature?

It fits standard baritone saxophone mouthpieces and ligatures. Fabric and metal ligatures both work; you may need to shift the ligature slightly to center it.

04Can I use this on tenor?

No. It is cut to baritone dimensions and will overhang or sit wrong on a tenor mouthpiece. Buy the tenor version instead.
