What matters in use

The specifications, translated

Catalog numbers tell only part of the story. These are the details most likely to change how this product feels, sounds, or fits into a setup.

Detail 01

TUSQ XL

PTFE is worked through the material, so strings slide in the slots instead of catching and pulling out of tune.

Detail 02

Slotted

Slots are pre-cut to Jazz spacing. You handle final depth, not the layout.

Detail 03

1/8 inch thickness

Front-to-back depth. Must match the routed slot in your neck or the nut sits loose or won't drop in.

Detail 04

1-9/16 inch length

Shorter than the Precision version, matching the Jazz Bass's narrower neck at the nut.

Detail 05

3/16 inch height

Taller than final spec. You sand the bottom to set first-fret action.

Final check

Know before you order

  1. 01Measure your old nut's length, thickness and height before ordering
  2. 02No glue, files or sandpaper included
  3. 03Slots typically need final depth filing for your string gauge

Product questions

Before you decide

Straight answers to the questions shoppers most often ask about this product.

01Will this fit a Precision Bass?

No. At 1-9/16 inch long it's cut for the narrower Jazz Bass neck. A P-Bass takes the wider 1-21/32 inch version with a 1-1/4 inch string spread.

02Do I have to file the slots?

Usually yes. The slots are cut but left shallow so you can set final depth for your string gauge and preferred action at the first fret.

03Will this fix my tuning problems?

If strings bind in the nut, yes. The PTFE in TUSQ XL keeps slots slick so strings return to pitch after bending instead of hanging up.

04How do I install it?

Remove the old nut, clean out the slot, dry-fit the new one, sand the base to height, then file slot depth. A small amount of glue holds it in place.
