What matters in use

The specifications, translated

Catalog numbers tell only part of the story. These are the details most likely to change how this product feels, sounds, or fits into a setup.

Detail 01

Strength 2.5

Middle of the range. Easier to sound than a 3, more body and pitch stability than a 2.

Detail 02

Soprano cut

Sized for the soprano mouthpiece table. Will not seat on alto or tenor.

Detail 03

Cane reed

Sound and response vary reed to reed, and change as the reed breaks in and wears out.

Detail 04

Price point

Cheap enough to rotate several at once rather than playing one until it dies.

Final check

Know before you order

  1. 01Reed strength interacts with mouthpiece tip opening — a wider tip wants a softer reed
  2. 02No ligature, mouthpiece cap or reed case included
  3. 03Wet the reed before playing and rotate between several to extend life

Product questions

Before you decide

Straight answers to the questions shoppers most often ask about this product.

01Is 2.5 the right strength for a beginner?

2 or 2.5 is the usual starting range. If you have been playing under six months and the tone feels strained, drop to a 2.

02Will this fit my alto sax?

No. Soprano reeds are narrower and shorter. You need alto-cut reeds for an alto mouthpiece.

03How long does a reed last?

Depends on playing hours and care. Rotating between three or four reeds and letting each dry out fully makes all of them last longer.

04Why do two reeds of the same strength play differently?

Cane is a natural material and density varies. Even within one strength, some reeds blow freer than others.
