01What does a bassoon reamer actually do?
It opens and tapers the inside of the reed's tube so the reed slides onto the bocal to the right depth with an airtight seal.
02Can I use this on regular bassoon reeds?
No. This is cut for contrabassoon tube dimensions. Bassoon reeds need a bassoon reamer.
03Do I need this if I buy finished reeds?
Usually not. Finished reeds are already reamed. It matters if a reed binds on your bocal or you make reeds from cane.
04How do I know when to stop reaming?
Test on the bocal repeatedly. Stop when the reed seats fully and holds without wobbling. Over-reaming thins the walls and leaks.
