Independent shopping perspective

The Korena take

Two-ply coated batter head for a 6-inch rack tom. For drummers running very small toms who want a controlled, short note instead of a high ping.

Strong match

Who this is for

  • Tiny 6-inch toms in a multi-tom setup
  • Cutting excess overtones from a high, ringy drum
  • Hard hitters who split thinner heads on small toms

Consider the trade-offs

When to look elsewhere

  • Players chasing long sustain from small toms
  • Use as a bottom resonant head
  • Anyone who needs the head to fit an 8-inch drum

What matters in use

The specifications, translated

Catalog numbers tell only part of the story. These are the details most likely to change how this product feels, sounds, or fits into a setup.

Detail 01

Two-ply

Doubled film shortens ring and resists denting. On a small tom that turns a sharp ping into a focused note.

Detail 02

Coated

Textured finish softens the stick attack and works with brushes. Slightly warmer than the same head in clear film.

Detail 03

6 in.

Only fits a 6-inch shell. Small diameters run high in pitch and have very little tuning range.

Detail 04

Batter side

Strike side, top of the drum. It does not replace the resonant head underneath.

Detail 05

Small diameter tuning

Little heads go sharp fast. Small key turns make big pitch jumps, so tune in quarter turns.

Final check

Know before you order

  1. 01One head, no resonant head and no tuning key included
  2. 02Confirm the shell is 6 inches, measured across the shell not the hoop
  3. 03Small toms need careful even tensioning to avoid a warbling pitch

Product questions

Before you decide

Straight answers to the questions shoppers most often ask about this product.

01How do I measure for the right size?

Measure straight across the top of the drum shell with the head and hoop removed. That number is the head size. Do not measure the hoop.

02Why does my 6-inch tom sound so high?

Small diameters naturally sit high in pitch. A two-ply head lowers it a little and cuts overtones, but a 6-inch drum still speaks high.

03Can I put this on the bottom of the drum?

Not a good fit. Resonant heads are thin single-ply film. This two-ply batter would choke the drum's response from below.

04Is coated or clear better for toms?

Coated gives a warmer attack and takes brushes. Clear is brighter with more stick definition. Both work; it's a tone preference.
