Strong match

Who this is for

  • Rock and pop kits needing warm toms that still project
  • Gigging drummers replacing heads that dent fast
  • Brush and stick work on a rack tom

Consider the trade-offs

When to look elsewhere

  • Jazz drummers wanting maximum sustain and openness
  • Anyone chasing bright, glassy attack from a clear head
  • Players needing the lightest possible stick response

What matters in use

The specifications, translated

Catalog numbers tell only part of the story. These are the details most likely to change how this product feels, sounds, or fits into a setup.

Detail 01

Two-ply film

Two layers give a lower fundamental, shorter sustain, and far more dent resistance than a single-ply head.

Detail 02

Coated finish

Warms the attack, tames high overtones slightly, and gives brushes a usable playing surface.

Detail 03

G2 (open two-ply)

Damped less than an oil-filled or ring-damped head, so it keeps some tom sustain while staying controlled.

Detail 04

12 inch

Fits a 12" rack tom. Head size follows shell diameter regardless of tom depth.

Detail 05

Batter head

Top head only. The bottom resonant head, which sets pitch and sustain, is a separate purchase.

Final check

Know before you order

  1. 01One head per pack. A three-tom kit needs three.
  2. 02Bottom resonant heads and a tuning key are not included.
  3. 03Two-ply heads sound best tuned lower than single-ply equivalents.

Product questions

Before you decide

Straight answers to the questions shoppers most often ask about this product.

01How is this different from a hydraulic head?

Both are two-ply, but a hydraulic has oil between the plies for heavy damping. This one keeps noticeably more sustain and openness.

02Coated or clear for toms?

Coated is warmer with a softer attack and works with brushes. Clear is brighter with more cut. Pick by the room and the music.

03Will this work on a 12" snare?

It will mount, but it is voiced for toms. A snare batter gives more crack and sensitivity for backbeats.

04Do I need to muffle it?

Sometimes. The second ply controls a lot, but a live shell may still want a small gel near the edge.
