01How is this different from a hydraulic head?
Both are two-ply, but a hydraulic has oil between the plies for heavy damping. This one keeps noticeably more sustain and openness.
02Coated or clear for toms?
Coated is warmer with a softer attack and works with brushes. Clear is brighter with more cut. Pick by the room and the music.
03Will this work on a 12" snare?
It will mount, but it is voiced for toms. A snare batter gives more crack and sensitivity for backbeats.
04Do I need to muffle it?
Sometimes. The second ply controls a lot, but a live shell may still want a small gel near the edge.
