The front. Resonant means the non-playing side of the bass drum. Your beater strikes a separate batter head.
02Will this fit a 20-inch or 22-inch kick?
No. It fits an 18-inch bass drum only. Head diameter must match the shell diameter exactly.
03Does it come with a port hole?
Plan on the head being solid unless you cut one. If you want mic access, use a port hole cutter and a reinforcing ring.
04Do I need to change the batter head at the same time?
Not required, but a fresh front head over a worn batter will not fix the sound. Most of the tone comes from the beater side.
