Independent shopping perspective

The Korena take

A single 14-inch frosted batter head for a tom. For a drummer who wants a warmer, drier tom than a clear head gives.

Strong match

Who this is for

  • Replacing one 14-inch tom head that has gone dead
  • Players who want tom decay pulled in and controlled
  • Anyone who uses brushes on toms

Consider the trade-offs

When to look elsewhere

  • Re-heading a whole kit — buy a size pack instead
  • Drummers chasing maximum brightness and ring
  • The bottom resonant side — this is a batter head

What matters in use

The specifications, translated

Catalog numbers tell only part of the story. These are the details most likely to change how this product feels, sounds, or fits into a setup.

Detail 01

Frosted surface

Textured coating gives brushes something to grab, takes some high end off the attack, and shortens sustain slightly.

Detail 02

14 in.

Sizing is shell diameter. Any 14-inch tom takes it, rack or floor.

Detail 03

Batter head

Top, struck side only. The resonant head underneath is bought separately.

Detail 04

EC2 series

More built-in control than an open head, so overtones settle faster and tuning range is narrower and easier to hit.

Detail 05

Single head

About $27 for one, against roughly $19 per head buying a three-piece pack.

Final check

Know before you order

  1. 01Just the head — no resonant head, tuning key, or muffling included
  2. 02Coating wears where the stick lands; brush texture goes first
  3. 03Measure the shell itself; hoop diameter reads larger than head size

Product questions

Before you decide

Straight answers to the questions shoppers most often ask about this product.

01What is the difference between this and the clear version?

Same 14-inch head with a frosted coating. Slightly warmer and drier than clear, less ring, and it works with brushes. Clear is brighter with more sustain.

02Can I use brushes on it?

Yes. The frosted texture is what makes brush sweeps audible. A clear head gives you almost nothing.

03Is one head enough for my kit?

One head covers one 14-inch tom. If you have a 10, 12, and 14, a three-piece pack is cheaper per head.

04How long does the coating last?

It wears fastest in the stick strike zone. The head still plays once the coating thins, but brush response drops off first.
