Strong match

Who this is for

  • Gigging players restringing every few weeks
  • Guitar techs or teachers maintaining several instruments
  • Anyone settled on 10-46 who wants a lower per-set cost

Consider the trade-offs

When to look elsewhere

  • Players still experimenting with gauges — twelve sets locks you in
  • Bass, acoustic or classical guitars — these are electric only
  • Occasional players; strings corrode in storage before you use them

What matters in use

The specifications, translated

Catalog numbers tell only part of the story. These are the details most likely to change how this product feels, sounds, or fits into a setup.

Detail 01

Regular Slinky 10-46

The middle-ground electric gauge. Bends easier than 11s, holds pitch better than 9s at standard tuning.

Detail 02

Nickel wound

Warmer and smoother under the fingers than stainless steel, and easier on frets over time.

Detail 03

12-pack

Works out to roughly $6.67 a set versus buying singles. Only pays off if you use them.

Detail 04

Roundwound construction

Textured winding gives bite and harmonic content, but adds finger squeak on the wound strings.

Detail 05

46 low E

Enough tension for standard tuning. Drop D works but gets slack; drop C will flap.

Final check

Know before you order

  1. 01Sets are individually sealed — store the box somewhere dry, not a damp garage
  2. 02Nothing else included: no winder, no cutters, no tuner
  3. 03Check your bridge type; floating trems need a re-setup if you switch gauge

Product questions

Before you decide

Straight answers to the questions shoppers most often ask about this product.

01What gauge is Regular Slinky?

10-46. Ten on the high E, forty-six on the low E, with nickel wound strings on the bottom four.

02Do these fit any electric guitar?

Any standard six-string electric with a scale length in the normal range. Check that your tuner posts and bridge accept .046 on the low E.

03How long do the sets keep before use?

Sealed packets slow corrosion considerably. Keep them out of humidity and heat and they will be fine for a long stretch.

04Can I use these for drop tunings?

Drop D is workable. Anything lower than that and the low E gets loose and intonates poorly — go up a gauge instead.
