ENGLZ-9 Custom Footswitch

ENGL
ENGL Z-9 Custom Footswitch

Independent shopping perspective

The Korena take

ENGL's larger footswitch, for players whose ENGL amp exposes more switchable functions than a basic four-button unit can reach.

Strong match

Who this is for

  • ENGL heads with several channels plus reverb and boost switching
  • Cover players changing sounds several times per set
  • Replacing a lost switcher on a multi-function ENGL amp

Consider the trade-offs

When to look elsewhere

  • Anyone running a single channel — spend half as much
  • Non-ENGL amps; the control connection is brand-specific
  • Studio-only players who switch by hand at the amp

What matters in use

The specifications, translated

Catalog numbers tell only part of the story. These are the details most likely to change how this product feels, sounds, or fits into a setup.

Detail 01

The larger ENGL switcher

Roughly twice the Z-4's price and the more capable of the pair. Buy it for the extra functions, not build quality.

Detail 02

"Custom" in the name

It's the configurable unit in ENGL's switcher line, aimed at amps with more than plain channel switching.

Detail 03

ENGL-specific control connection

Matched to ENGL amp jacks. It won't remote-control another maker's head, whatever the jack looks like.

Detail 04

Footswitch, not an effect

No tone of its own. It only relocates amp controls to the floor, so signal path stays untouched.

Final check

Know before you order

  1. 01List the functions your amp can switch — don't pay for buttons it ignores
  2. 02Check the supplied cable reaches your usual stage position
  3. 03Amp, cabinet, and pedalboard mounting are not included

Product questions

Before you decide

Straight answers to the questions shoppers most often ask about this product.

01Is the Z-9 Custom worth double the Z-4?

Only if your amp exposes functions the Z-4 can't reach. If you just need channel and boost, the cheaper unit does the same job.

02Will it work with my non-ENGL head?

Plan on no. Footswitch wiring differs between manufacturers, so a matching jack does not mean the channels will map correctly.

03Does it need its own power supply?

No. It's powered through the connecting cable from the amp, so it takes no space or outlet on a pedalboard supply.

04Can I use it with a MIDI rig?

It's a direct amp footswitch, not a MIDI controller. For MIDI control you'd need a switcher built for that and an amp that accepts it.
