What matters in use

The specifications, translated

Catalog numbers tell only part of the story. These are the details most likely to change how this product feels, sounds, or fits into a setup.

Detail 01

67 mm length

Longer barrel means lower pitch. Roughly a few cents flatter per millimeter versus a 65 or 66.

Detail 02

Moennig taper

The reverse-taper bore is the point. It tightens response across registers and evens out throat tones.

Detail 03

Bb-specific

Cut for Bb clarinet dimensions. Won't seat or tune correctly on an A clarinet.

Detail 04

Barrel, not a full joint

Swaps in seconds between mouthpiece and upper joint. No tools, no permanent change to the horn.

Final check

Know before you order

  1. 01Check your current barrel length first — 66 mm is the common stock size
  2. 02Tenon corks may need fitting or greasing to seat properly
  3. 03Sold as the barrel alone. No case, mouthpiece, or ligature

Product questions

Before you decide

Straight answers to the questions shoppers most often ask about this product.

01Will this fit my Buffet R13?

It's cut to Buffet Bb specifications, so yes on Buffet Bb clarinets. On other brands the tenon diameter may differ enough to need a repair tech to fit.

02Should I get 66 mm or 67 mm?

Depends on where you sit at pitch. If you're consistently sharp and pulling out at the barrel, go 67. If you're at pitch or flat, stay at 66 or shorter.

03Does a barrel really change the sound?

Yes. Barrel bore shape and length affect resistance, response, and intonation across registers — most noticeably in the throat tones.

04Can I use this on an A clarinet?

No. This is the Bb version. Buffet makes a separate Moennig barrel cut for A clarinet.
