Product studyAmerican DJ Megaflash 800W DMX Strobe

Strong match

Who this is for

  • Mobile DJ rigs needing one loud flash accent
  • Small clubs and bars running DMX-controlled lighting
  • Drop-in strobe hits on a band stage

Consider the trade-offs

When to look elsewhere

  • Anyone wanting continuous strobing through a whole set
  • Rooms already lit by LED strobes with matched color
  • Installs where a hot lamp fixture is impractical

What matters in use

The specifications, translated

Catalog numbers tell only part of the story. These are the details most likely to change how this product feels, sounds, or fits into a setup.

Detail 01

800W strobe lamp (ZB-800)

Xenon-style flash tube output, not LED. Much harder single-flash punch than small LED strobes at the same price.

Detail 02

15 minutes on/off duty cycle

Run it 15 minutes, then rest it. Plan strobe moments in your set instead of leaving it on.

Detail 03

DMX control

Chains into your existing lighting controller so flash rate is programmable, not just knob-set on the fixture.

Detail 04

Air-cooled

There is a fan. Audible up close, and the vents need clear space around the fixture.

Detail 05

5 lbs, 15.5 inches wide

Light enough for a T-bar or truss clamp, but wide — it eats a lot of horizontal bar space.

Detail 06

Replaceable lamp

The ZB-800 tube is a consumable. Budget a spare, because tubes dim and eventually fail with use.

Final check

Know before you order

  1. 01Bring a DMX cable and controller — neither is part of the fixture
  2. 02Leave clearance around the vents; the lamp housing gets hot
  3. 03Confirm your venue allows strobes and post a warning at the door

Product questions

Before you decide

Straight answers to the questions shoppers most often ask about this product.

01Is this LED or a real strobe tube?

It uses an 800W ZB-800 strobe lamp, not LEDs. That means a harder, whiter flash than LED strobes, plus heat and a duty cycle to respect.

02Can I run it in sound-active mode without a controller?

It is a DMX fixture, so a controller gives you full rate and intensity control. For standalone operation, check the fixture's onboard mode settings before you rely on it.

03How long can I leave it running?

Fifteen minutes on, then fifteen off. Continuous all-night strobing is outside what the fixture is rated for and shortens lamp life.

04Will it be bright enough for a 200-person room?

Yes for accent flashes in a club-sized room. It is a single fixture, so wide stages usually want a pair placed left and right.
